What Is Canyoning? A First-Timer's Guide

How a canyoning tour actually works, what you need to know before your first descent and who can join.

Rappelling down a waterfall during a canyoning tour

Canyoning means descending a canyon using the route the water carved: you hike, scramble, swim and rappel down waterfalls with technical equipment.

No previous experience is required on our beginner routes. Your guide sets every anchor, manages the rope and explains the commands before the first descent.

You will get wet, so wear clothes you don't mind soaking, closed shoes with grip and bring a dry change for afterwards. Helmet, harness and ropes are always included.

Fitness matters more than technique. If you can hike for an hour on uneven ground and you are comfortable in water, a beginner canyon is within reach.
